There are so many ways to fill and make them: Cheese (dairy or non-dairy), avocado, bacon, tomatoes, deli meat, nut-free spread & banana slices (oh yes!), chicken parm... and well, the possibilities are endless.
Little Miss' favorite? The traditional toasted cheese with tomato soup for dunking! It was always my favorite as a kid, too.

One of the questions I hear most often regarding toasted sandwiches is "How do I keep them from getting soggy by lunch time?"
I actually learned how to properly pack our toasted sammies from my MOMables family! The trick is to let it cool completely before packing it. This will keep it from getting soggy.
What about the soup? How do you keep it warm until lunch?
Invest in a good thermos, first and foremost. I purchased a new stainless one last school year and that has been a tremendous help in keeping ours warm.
The second part of the equation, is heating the core. You need to heat the core of your thermos before packing the warmed soup inside. This will ensure it stays warm until lunch time.
